Stand to End Rape

The Stand to End Rape is a non-profit that focuses on ending rape in Nigeria. Their mission statement is, “To end all forms of rape and to provide education and reverse thinking actions that contribute to rape, we shall provide healing and support for victims of rape. We shall also engage teens and youths in preventive and anti-rape programs. To ensure adequate punishment is meted against perpetrators and that victim blaming/stigmatisation is a thing of the past” (“Stand to End Rape.”).

Stand to End Rape has multiple programs and services that help with their mission. Sexual and Reproductive Rights being their first and most important programs. Sexual and Reproductive Rights is a selection of prevention and treatment services that aims at giving the rights to everyone of being able to have adequate and affordable healthcare that pays attention to cultural needs. Stand to End Rape feels that people have the right to health care without being discriminated against, while still having healthcare that responds to their specific needs (“Stand to End Rape.”).

What has Stand To End Rape done for Nigeria?

Stand To End Rape has done Awareness Seminars is a program of seminars that’s main focus is building up the capacity of citizens to hinder incidents from occurring. The seminars focus on engaging people to realize the role they play in preventing rape, identifying possible risk factors, and places of help that are available to the people. Stand To End Rape also has Sexual Violence and Abuse is a program that provides resources and educational materials that educates communities and societies on prevention of rape, sexual violence, and abuse. Stand to End Rape also provides a “Peer Mentoring” program where rape survivors are able to talk to other survivors and help one another. Stand to End Rape feels that those who have been through rape often feel they can not talk to others about it, and so through their Peer Mentoring program, they hope to relieve the idea of not being able to talk to others. Lastly, Stand to End Rape offers therapy for those who have faced rape. Stand to End Rape feels that survivors have immense pressure and sensitive nature of their experience and because of this, Stand to End Rape works with healthcare professionals that specialize in helping those who have faced traumatic events. Survivors are able to get counseling, along with support and treatment through this program.
